Reykjavik Series Chess Set Burnt Boxwood Pieces with Black and Ash Burl Board and Box - 3.75 inch King - This luxurious chess set includes our Reykjavik Staunton chess pieces handcrafted from boxwood matched with our Black and Ash Burl High Gloss Deluxe Chessboard and Classic Black Chess Box. The Reykjavik draws inspiration from the chess set used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. The pieces are handcrafted from boxwood and then burnt and engraved to reveal the boxwood underneath creating a unique and beautiful pattern on each piece. This is a 34-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is 3.75 inch tall with a base diameter of 1.625 inch, the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chessboard. A Certificate of Manufacture is included so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.
