Parker Staunton Chess Set Burnt Boxwood Pieces with Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Board and Box - 3.75 inch King - This luxurious chess set includes the Parker Staunton chess pieces handcrafted from boxwood matched with the Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard and Classic Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Box. Our Parker Staunton is a throwback to the vintage Staunton chess set patterns from over a hundred years ago. The Parker embodies the rich history of Staunton with traditional design elements in every respect from pawn to king. The knight is masterfully carved with shape, features, and detail reminiscent of past chess set masterpieces. The pieces are handcrafted from boxwood and then burnt and engraved to reveal the boxwood underneath creating a unique and beautiful pattern on each piece. This is a 34-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is 3.75 inch tall with a base diameter of 1.625 inch, the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chessboard. A Certificate of Manufacture is included so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from. This Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard offers a luxurious back drop for these special chess pieces. Handcrafted from premium veneer, this chessboard highlights the deep, rich hues of the walnut burl contrasted with the golden tones of the bird's-eye maple. The squares are surrounded with a wide black delimiter and a black border on the outside emphasizes the bird's-eye maple frame. A semi-gloss polyurethane finish both protects and enhances the color of the wood. The squares are 2 inch with an overall footprint of 19.5 inch. Reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from years ago, the Bird's-Eye Maple Classic Chess Box is beautifully constructed. The box is covered in beautiful bird's-eye maple veneer that perfectly matches the chessboard squares and frame with a lustrous semi-gloss polyurethane finish. The interior is lined with a thick emerald-green baize just like those used for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for conveniently storing the black and white pieces separately. We use high quality brass plated quadrant hinges that neatly recess into the wall of the box and a brass plated lock and key for securing the lid when closed.
