Dubrovnik Series Chess Set - Ebony and Boxwood Pieces with Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Board and Box - 3.9 inch King - This chess set package includes the Dubrovnik Championship Series chess set with genuine ebony and boxwood pieces matched with the Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard and Classic Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Box. This wonderful chess set is an exact replica of the one used in 1970s-era Dubrovnik Chess Olympiad in Siegen, West Germany. This wonderful Staunton pattern was made popular by the legendary Bobby Fischer, who was often photographed playing with his own set. This is a full tournament-sized set that features a 3.9 inch King with a 1.625 inch diameter base. Master artisans hand carve all the chess pieces one piece at a time. The ebony is polished to an obsidian black shine. The chess pieces are heavily weighted have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on chessboard. The unique design, quality and craftsmanship of this chess set is simply unmatched. This Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard offers a luxurious back drop for these special chess pieces. Handcrafted from premium veneer, this chessboard highlights the deep, rich hues of the walnut burl contrasted with the golden tones of the bird's-eye maple. The squares are surrounded with a wide black delimiter and a black border on the outside emphasizes the bird's-eye maple frame. A semi-gloss polyurethane finish both protects and enhances the color of the wood. The squares are 2.125 inch with an overall footprint of 21.5 inch. Reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from years ago, the Bird's-Eye Maple Classic Chess Box is beautifully constructed. The box is covered in beautiful bird's-eye maple veneer that perfectly matches the chessboard squares and frame with a lustrous semi-gloss polyurethane finish. The interior is lined with a thick emerald-green baize just like those used for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for conveniently storing the black and white pieces separately. We use high quality brass plated quadrant hinges that neatly recess into the wall of the box and a brass plated lock and key for securing the lid when closed.
