British Staunton Chess Set - Ebony and Boxwood Pieces with Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Board and Box - 3.5 inch King - This chess set package includes our British Staunton in genuine ebony and Boxwood matched with the Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard and Classic Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Box. Our British Staunton is a traditional Staunton design modeled after an old British Chess Company chess set from many years ago. The piece are hand polished and lacquered to beautiful glossy shine. The king is 3.5 inch tall and has a base diameter of 1.5 inch - an ideal size for your games at home. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and green baize pads so they slide smoothly across the chessboard. We include 2 extra queens for pawn promotion. This Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chessboard offers a luxurious back drop for these special chess pieces. Handcrafted from premium veneer, this chessboard highlights the deep, rich hues of the walnut burl contrasted with the golden tones of the bird's-eye maple. The squares are surrounded with a wide black delimiter and a black border on the outside emphasizes the bird's-eye maple frame. A semi-gloss polyurethane finish both protects and enhances the color of the wood. The squares are 2 inch with an overall footprint of 19.5 inch. Reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from years ago, the Bird's-Eye Maple Classic Chess Box is beautifully constructed. The box is covered in beautiful bird's-eye maple veneer that perfectly matches the chessboard squares and frame with a lustrous semi-gloss polyurethane finish. The interior is lined with a thick emerald-green baize just like those used for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for conveniently storing the black and white pieces separately.
